It is a tooth-preserving procedure that removes inflamed or infected tissue from inside a tooth. The canals are cleaned, shaped and sealed, then the tooth is restored so it can function again. Suitability and the final restoration depend on the condition of the individual tooth.

When might a root canal be recommended?+
It may be considered when the pulp inside a tooth is inflamed or infected because of deep decay, a crack, trauma or a failing restoration. An examination and appropriate imaging are needed to diagnose the cause.
Does root canal treatment hurt?+
Local anaesthesia is used to keep the area comfortable during treatment. Tenderness afterwards varies from person to person; Dr Shweta will explain what to expect and when to contact the clinic.
How many visits will I need?+
That depends on the tooth, infection and complexity. After the assessment, we explain the likely number of appointments and whether a crown or other restoration may be needed.
Is every painful tooth treated with a root canal?+
No. Pain can have several causes. The aim of the first visit is to diagnose the source and discuss the most appropriate options without assuming treatment in advance.
